The Princeton Journal of Pre-Collegiate Research (PJPCR) recognizes that artificial intelligence (AI) tools, including large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, are becoming an increasingly common part of academic research and writing. We support their responsible and ethical use when they are used to assist, rather than replace, original scholarly work.

If AI tools have been used in the preparation of a manuscript, authors must disclose their use in either the Methods section or an Acknowledgements section, describing the tool used and how it contributed to the work. Disclosure is not required if AI was used solely for copyediting purposes, such as correcting spelling, grammar, or punctuation. Failure to disclose significant AI use may be considered a breach of publication ethics and may result in editorial action, including rejection of the manuscript.

PJPCR encourages authors to use AI thoughtfully and transparently. While AI can be a valuable aid for learning and research, it cannot replace critical thinking, scientific reasoning, or academic judgment. Every submission should represent the author's own ideas, analysis, and intellectual contribution. The journal values originality, integrity, and independent scholarship, and we encourage students to use AI as a tool to strengthen their work—not to define it.
