The Effects of Interpersonal Relationship between Doctors and Nurses and Its Impact on Patients Care: A Case Study of University of Benin Health Services

This study examines the cordiality that exists between doctors and nurses in the work environment and how this impacts patient care at the University of Benin health services, Benin City. A descriptive survey design was employed, with 90 healthcare professionals recruited using simple random sampling. Data were collected via a self-structured five-point Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS version 20. Results revealed that 50% of respondents disagreed that there is no mutual relationship between doctors and nurses on patient care, while 40% agreed that doctor superiority affects their interrelationship. The study concluded that lack of mutual relationship, role conflicts, pride, lack of trust, and communication breakdown are significant factors impacting patient care quality.
