Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder with elevated blood sugar levels due to insufficient insulin secretion or action. This cross-sectional study evaluated knowledge and awareness of Type II diabetes among 138 obese individuals in rural Ali Raza Abad, Lahore, Pakistan. Using the Diabetes Knowledge Test questionnaire, findings revealed that participants had poor knowledge (mean score 1.83±0.131) regarding diabetes etiology, management, and prevention. The majority lacked awareness of causes, complications, and self-management strategies. Community-based educational programs are essential to enhance understanding and promote diabetes prevention and management in rural populations.
