Abstract

This study evaluates internal migration in Nepal using the national growth rate method (NGRM) and an improved variant. Analysis of 2011 census data reveals that urban areas are major destinations for out-migrants from rural areas, while Mountain and Hilly regions lose population to Tarai. The improved method provides lower migration estimates by excluding natural increase of migrated populations. Results show significant migration flows from rural to urban areas and from Mountain/Hill regions to Tarai, with Eastern and Western development regions experiencing net out-migration while Central regions gain population.
