Abstract
The construction industry continues to evolve, and quantity surveyors (QS) face both challenges and opportunities. Facilities Management (FM) represents a significant avenue for QS professionals to broaden their service scope. However, to successfully venture into FM, quantity surveyors must identify and bridge critical competency gaps. This study examined experienced quantity surveyors engaged in FM consultancy through semi-structured interviews and identified six key competency gaps: property maintenance, business organization, support services operation, energy and utility management, customer services, and information management. The research recommends tertiary-level education, on-the-job learning, and continuous professional development as mechanisms to bridge these gaps and enable QS professionals to effectively transition into the FM discipline.
