Abstract

In many instances, the demand for inventory items fluctuates with time. This paper develops an economic order quantity model for ameliorating items that describes scenarios where demand increases, decreases, remains constant, or vanishes with time. Stocked items are ameliorative when they incur a gradual increase in quality, quantity or both with time. We develop a model that determines the optimal replenishment cycle time such that the total variable cost is minimized. Numerical examples and sensitivity analyses are provided to illustrate the derived model.
