Abstract

This study aimed to develop receptive and expressive vocabulary lists in Malayalam for children aged 4-6 years using parental reports. A word list of 310 words was formulated from Malayalam textbooks and validated by native speakers. Words were categorized by place of articulation and word type. Mothers of children in this age range selected words their children could understand and produce. The final vocabulary list was based on word frequency, with verbs showing maximum comprehension. This standardized list can serve as a clinical tool for identifying Malayalam-speaking children at risk of language delays.
