Development of Phonetic Transcription System for Bangla to IPA

This project develops a phonetic transcription system for Bangla to IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet). The system addresses the complex and inconsistent rules of Bangla word pronunciation by implementing rule-based mechanisms in Java. Using the BDNC01 corpus for evaluation, the system successfully transcribes 87% of tested text. The application of this system extends to multiple fields including text-to-speech conversion, Bangla dictionary development, pronunciation verification, and cross-lingual applications, with potential for future enhancement through phonetic encoding.
