Comparison Between Traditional Methods and Metal-Organic Frameworks on CO₂ Capture

Abstract
This paper evaluates metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as an advanced carbon capture technology compared to traditional methods such as amine scrubbing and zeolites. MOFs demonstrate superior characteristics including exceptionally high surface area (up to 7,800 m²/g), tunable pore structures, and selective CO₂ adsorption capabilities. The study examines the advantages and disadvantages of each approach, considering efficiency, energy requirements, and economic feasibility. While MOFs show significant promise for next-generation direct air capture applications, practical challenges including cost, durability, and scalability remain important considerations for large-scale implementation. This analysis determines that MOFs represent a viable and potentially superior alternative for future carbon capture and storage technology.
