Solar Energy in Nigerian Buildings: A Pathway to Energy Efficiency

Abstract

Due to increased living standards and energy demand, this study evaluates solar energy implementation in Nigerian buildings using passive and active solar architecture approaches. The research examines building design parameters including geographic location, climatic conditions, building shape, orientation, construction materials, and window design to reduce artificial energy requirements for thermal comfort. With Nigeria facing chronic electricity supply challenges, solar energy presents a sustainable alternative to generator use. The study reviews existing solar-powered facilities in Nigeria and provides recommendations for designing energy-efficient buildings through climate-responsive architecture.
