Abstract
This study presents a design comparison and cost analysis between solid reinforced concrete slabs and hollow block slabs for the roof of a three-story building. The architectural plans of a building in Bani Walid, Libya were analyzed, and both solid and hollow block slab systems were designed according to Arab code standards. Quantities and costs were calculated for materials and labor, with prices obtained from the local market in 2012. The hollow block slab system demonstrated significant economic advantages, achieving a 6.23% cost savings per square meter compared to solid slabs, with even greater labor cost reductions of 15.59% for slabs and 58.50% for beams.
