Biodiversity of Demersal Fish Captured by Beach Seine Using Swept Area Method at Pangandaran, West Java Province, Indonesia

Abstract

Beach seine fishing gear has contributed to the decline of fisheries resources in Pangandaran, particularly demersal fish. This study analyzed demersal fish species diversity based on swept area methods to provide baseline data for sustainable fisheries management. Research was conducted from August 2018 to July 2019 on the East Coast of Pangandaran, with sampling at 3 stations and 3 replications each. The main catches consisted of layur fish (Trichiurus spp., average 172 fish) and white pomfret (Pampus argentus, average 99 fish), with 7 bycatch species totaling 1,990 fish. Results showed low to moderate diversity with 9 species total, dominated by the Leiognathidae family. The seine trawler achieved a catch rate of 31.05 kg/hour and stock density of 453.15 kg/km².
