Antimicrobial Activity of Some Plants Extracts Against MRSA

Abstract

This study determines the effectiveness of plant extracts against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) using in vitro disc diffusion methods. Three plants believed to have antimicrobial properties in traditional medicine—Rhatany krameriaceae, Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree oil), and Acacia nilotica—were tested. Tea tree oil extract showed the largest inhibition zone of 48 mm, followed by Acacia nilotica at 24 mm, and Rhatany krameriaceae at 19 mm. Results suggest these plant extracts possess potential antimicrobial activity against MRSA and may offer therapeutic alternatives to conventional antibiotics.
